The British designer Antony Price, the visionary style architect who crafted a series of unforgettable images favored by artists from David Bowie to Roxy Music and even royalty like Queen Camilla, has sadly died at the age of 80.

His reputation was built on his architectural shapes and theatrical styles, including the light-hued ensembles that became famous from the iconic band Duran Duran's seminal music video for "Rio".

"Remembering him as a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' the group posted a remembrance on social media."

This news arrives less than a month after he presented his newest line in London, which was his first major show in over 30 years. Singer Lily Allen walked in a dress that paid homage to the notorious black velvet "dress" historically worn by Princess Diana.

An Enduring Influence

Born in Yorkshire in 1945, Price relocated to London at the start of the 1960s to attend the esteemed Royal College of Art.

Shortly after his graduation, he commenced his career designing clothing for men at the company Stirling Copper and was the creator of the tight, button-detailed trousers that Sir Mick Jagger sported during the iconic group's Gimme Shelter tour in 1969.

He launched his own brand in 1979 and held his debut runway presentation a year later. The show was launched by outfits on the famed model Jerry Hall, who was also seen in the marriage dress Price designed for her for her marriage to Sir Mick Jagger.

Collaborations with Icons

A long-time collaborator of the late David Bowie, Price created the memorable jacket the artist wore for his "As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.

His characteristic talent to blend elements of men's and women's fashion along with his masterful technique in crafting form-fitting garments cemented his status as a "genuine original," according to the British Fashion Council.

By the 1990s, he began working on outfits for the then-Duchess of Cornwall, Camilla, which included several ensembles for her tour of the United States after becoming Duchess.

After a career spanning half a century, Price held his ultimate fashion presentation in London recently in conjunction with the label 16Arlington.

  • Defined Shapes: Central to his design philosophy.
  • Performative Style: Influencing music videos and stagewear.
  • Boundary-Pushing Tailoring: Blurring lines between clothing for men and women.
  • Clients from Stage to Palace: Including music legends and the future Queen Consort.

The fashion world mourns the loss to a true visionary whose impact on fashion and music remains deeply ingrained.
