The English Team to Launch UEFA Euro 2028 Journey at City’s Home Ground
The England national team will commence their UEFA Euro 2028 journey at the Manchester City’s stadium, provided that they secure the anticipated passage for a championship taking place in the majority of the UK and the Ireland.
Manchester City’s home ground has not welcomed an English men’s game since May 2016, when the Turkish team were defeated 2-1 in a friendly, but is almost certain to welcome the national team for their first match on a Saturday in June 2028.
The team are planned to play their concluding group fixtures at Wembley, but, should they win the preliminary round, their knockout stage opener would occur at the Newcastle stadium. Finishing second would mean commencing the knockouts at Everton’s Hill Dickinson Stadium.
Competition Launch and Demonstration
The event was launched at an gathering in a London landmark on Wednesday evening. Key representatives from Uefa and the organizing bodies were barracked as they entered the site by around fifty protesters, who urged the Israeli team to be removed from global football because of the conflict in Gaza.
Signs were displayed with messages reading “Show Israel the red card” and “You are complicit”, while activists shouted: “Kick Israel out.”
Championship Timeline
The first match of the tournament will be held at the the national stadium of Wales in Cardiff, on Friday 9 June, a game that will include Wales if they qualify.
Wembley Stadium will host the penultimate rounds and the championship match, which will be held on a Sunday in July 2028 with a kick-off time at 5:00 PM.
It is hoped that an earlier start, which will also be adopted for UEFA Champions League finals from the following campaign, will appeal to families and help reach a broader range of audiences.
Qualifying Teams
The Ireland are set to play their first game at the Dublin stadium and the Scottish team would play similarly at Glasgow’s Hampden Park.
All four host countries’ teams will enter the qualification process; two guaranteed slots will be reserved for any that do not reach Euro 2028 through the qualification path.
Stadiums and Knockout Stage
Villa Park and The North London arena round out the nine tournament locations. All will hold at least one elimination game, with the quarterfinal matches held at every host’s main arena.
The qualifying draw will be conducted in Belfast, which was removed as a tournament location last year when it became clear Casement Park could not be renovated in time, on a date in late 2026.

Over 3 million admissions, a record for a men’s European Championship, are projected to be released to fans.
