R360 Athletes Face Decade-Long Suspension from Australia's Rugby League
The athlete earned 20 international appearances for the All Blacks before changing loyalty to the Samoan team.
The NRL's authority has stated that participants who enter the “counterfeit” R360 will be barred for 10 seasons.
The proposed competition, set to start in October 2026, is aiming to attract players from union and league with lucrative deals and a condensed fixture list.
Top rugby league athletes have reportedly received offers by the breakaway group, which will involve six to eight men's sides and four women's teams based in major cities worldwide.
Representing Samoa the rugby star, who is with the Warriors in the competition, has confirmed he has had talks with the new organization.
Papenhuyzen, Zac Lomax, Haas and Jye Gray are also believed to be considering joining the rebel league.
Several leading union countries, including Australia, recently announced a restriction on athletes signing with R360 playing global fixtures.
“We heard our clubs and we've taken firm action,” commented ARLC chief Peter V'Landys.
“Unfortunately, there will persistently exist entities that attempt to hijack our code for monetary profit.
“They don't invest in development systems or the growth of talent. They merely capitalize on the hard work of others, endangering athletes of economic hardship while benefiting financially.
“Essentially, they are, imitating the sport.”
The organization is launched by former England World Cup winner Mike Tindall and supported by independent financiers.
After the prospective rugby union bans were revealed recently, it said: “We seek to cooperate together as integrated into the global rugby calendar.
“The series is structured with tailored timetables for male and female sides and we will allow all athletes for global fixtures, as included in their deals.”
The breakaway group will apply for endorsement for its plans from rugby union's governing body, rugby union's administrative organization, at its board session next year.
