NY Introduces Portal for Public to Share ICE Videos Following Detentions of 4 US Citizens

The state attorney general has launched a fresh digital platform encouraging citizens to submit visual evidence of ICE operations throughout New York. This move follows a day after a major enforcement action disrupted Manhattan's Chinatown, prompting widespread demonstrations.

US Citizens Arrested In Raid

A US congressman revealed during a Wednesday press conference that four US citizens were arrested and held for "nearly 24 hours" after the previous day's operation. Protests erupted in the city on Tuesday and Wednesday nights.

"Each citizen deserves to live without fear," the attorney general wrote in a announcement.

"For those who saw and documented federal operations yesterday, I encourage you to submit that evidence with us. We are pledged to assessing these submissions and determining any legal breaches."

Submission Process

The portal offers spaces to send visual evidence of the incident, as well as a area to indicate geographic details. When submitting, users must check a box that acknowledges that "authorities may use any materials, images, or footage in a official report, including in a court case or government document."

Information about the ICE Action

The Manhattan operation, which observers say involved dozens of ICE personnel, occurred in a popular neighborhood of NYC where fake handbags, accessories, jewelry and other goods are regularly available widely – often to tourists.

Recordings of the operation show several covered and weaponized federal agents restraining and arresting a person, and shoving away onlookers. Masses of locals trailed the personnel down the sidewalks. An military-style transport was observed rolling through the Manhattan avenues.

Official Reactions

In a midweek briefing held with the rights organization, congressman Dan Goldman, a lawmaker, stated that four nationals were arrested by immigration for about 24 hours and that there were "no circumstances where US citizens should be detained for without cause." He said the persons were released on the following day with no legal action taken.

"There's a clear purpose here. It is not about removing offenders," the congressman remarked. "This constitutes a militarized effort to create conflict. It is purely a excuse to generate turmoil for the government to bring in the troops to prevent violence that they initiated."

Widespread Condemnation

Outrage over the ICE raid escalated – all three mayoral candidates condemned the operation, including the state leader.

"Yet again, the Trump administration chooses authoritarian theatrics that instill panic, not safety. It has to end," a political candidate stated.

New York City advocacy organizations voiced concern also.

"Federal officers targeted Chinatown in NYC with armored transports, covered personnel and riot gear to focus on street vendors working to survive. This raid had no relation to citizen protection and focused completely on terrorizing immigrant families and areas," said the head of a rights organization.

Agency Rules

Agency rules forbids the holding of citizens and the organization has stated it will not arrest or detain American nationals. However, independent reporting has discovered that more than 170 American nationals have been taken illegally by immigration authorities since the beginning of the existing leadership.

Current Situation

Immigration operations have been rising in frequency in New York and across the US recently.

A mid-October raid in central NYC was the initial documented operation on an immigrant shelter of the present government. Demonstrations targeting ICE are ubiquitous including claims of force and cruel conditions.

Recently, a submission filed by advocacy organizations stated medical neglect of expectant mothers in government custody.
