Manchester United Set to Sign Germany Forward Lea Schüller away from the Bavarian Giants

The Women's Super League club are on the verge of sealing the deal for prolific German striker Lea Schüller in a permanent move from Bayern Munich.

A Major Acquisition for United

The forward, with half a year remaining on her deal, is known as a consistent goal-getter for her club and the national team. She has netted over 100 goals for Bayern and scored 54 times in 82 appearances for her country. This signing is viewed as a major coup for the WSL side.

Her exit from Bayern has been anticipated after she was seen fighting back tears while applauding the club's fans following a victory over Bayer Leverkusen this month.

It was reported in late December that the German women's top flight was losing one of its top strikers. Per reports, the formalities for the transfer are now finalised.

Reliable Goalscoring to Strengthen United's Attack

The experienced striker's signing is expected to provide a significant uplift to the team's forward line. She has been highly consistent in front of goal in the Bundesliga.

  • For seven straight seasons, up to and including the most recent campaign, she achieved at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
  • She won the Golden Boot in the 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.

Building Steam at Carrington

The acquisition of the German international comes at a time when the club appear to be building momentum.

Their recent performances feature securing a place in the European knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a win in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.

In the transfer market, the winter break has seen additional activity:

  1. The acquisition of Sweden defender Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
  2. The new deal for Japan playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, who has become fan favourite since joining in 2023.

Regarding the midfielder's new deal, a senior figure commented: “She has become a critical component to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and technical ability allows her and the team to dominate play from the middle of the park.”

The new defender, having arrived from a club in the American league, said: “You can feel how much the club have progressed in the last few years, competing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and now featuring in the Champions League.”
