Iran Claims Attack on US Base in Bahrain, Amid Widespread Retaliatory Strikes.
Iranian forces say they have struck a American military facility in Bahrain, as the country executed operations across the region in response for a large-scale and ongoing assault against it by the US and Israel.
Huge plumes of black smoke were seen rising from an area near the headquarters of the American Fifth Fleet in Manama, Bahrain. The extent of any destruction is uncertain and the United States has not commented.
Airspace Engagements
In other parts of the Middle East, the United Arab Emirates, the State of Qatar and Kuwait - each hosting US military bases - stated they have engaged and destroyed incoming projectiles in their territorial skies.
In Doha, Qatar's defence ministry announced it had intercepted a number of projectiles seemingly aimed at the Al Udeid Air Base, the largest American base in the Middle East.
Operation "Truthful Promise 4"
The Iranian Revolutionary Guard said in a statement it was striking US bases and assets as part of military campaign "Truthful Promise 4", in reprisal for the attack on the Islamic Republic initiated by the US and Israel on Saturday.
That US-Israeli operation - launched at approximately 09:15 Iran time - has so far focused on sites associated with the Iranian leadership, with US President Donald Trump urging the people of Iran to revolt against the leadership.
Additional Developments
In the State of Israel, sirens were heard nationwide after the Israel Defense Forces reported it had detected an barrage of missiles from Iran.
The defence ministry of the United Arab Emirates said in a statement that the country has been targeted by a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".
"UAE air defence systems dealt with the missiles with great effectiveness and destroyed a several projectiles," the statement continued.
Officials reported missile fragments landed in a residential area in the capital, resulting in some structural damage and killing a civilian.
The United States Air Force operates from Al Dhafra Air Base, to the south of the Emirati capital, along with the Emirati Air Force.
