Arne Slot Insists He Is Secure and Retains The Club's Support After PSV Humiliation

The Liverpool head coach admitted that it's understandable for doubts to be asked about his position after another convincing defeat against PSV Eindhoven.

Liverpool endured their ninth defeat in twelve games, representing the club's poorest streak since being demoted in the 1953-54 season.

They were dominated by the Eredivisie champions on a punishing evening at Anfield.

“I'm confident, things are alright, I've received significant backing from management,” the coach stated.

“It would be nice to reverse this trend and earn three points of course but when you're in a managerial role and underperforming then it's typical that people question you.”

He noted, “I am OK with my position. It is not the first time I've found myself in a challenging situation but it's crucial that we turned it around.”

Discussions with Liverpool Hierarchy

Upon being questioned to provide details on his conversations with the club's leadership, the head coach explained:

“We communicate frequently. They assist for the squad and for me and we discuss these matters but they don’t call me constantly each day to say they trust me.”

He further stated, “In the normal discussions I sense the confidence. But I haven’t spoken to them since this game yet so we'll see.”

Recurring Failings and Player Response

Slot lamented recurring weaknesses from his squad in their European defeat, specifically wasted chances and leaking goals.

Meanwhile, midfielder Jones was more forthright in his evaluation of the club’s predicament.

“I haven't got the answers. Honestly, I do not. I'm telling that to all,” Jones remarked.

“It's simply not good enough. I don't have to wait to reflect. I’m past getting mad inside. I’m at the point now where I just don’t have the phrases.”

He continued, “It's difficult because I’m playing for the side I follow. I’m a fan, and I've watched Liverpool for years.”

“In a long, long time, I haven’t experienced a Liverpool team experiencing a period such as this with performances like these.”

He finished, “However we still have the crest on our chest. And as long as that badge is gone, we’re always going to battle.”

“We will attempt to get this team back to its rightful place, show everyone again what this club is about and the reason it's called the top club in the planet.”

“However currently, things are bad and it must improve.”
